Although left befuddled by the great winds and mighty storms, the Assumpta community set forth this year’s school thrust, “Following Jesus, we live synodality and respond to our new realities today,” as the school transitions from face-to-face classes to online learning during the first week of the school year. 

On Thursday morning of the supposedly subject orientation, learners and employees were sent  home as the provincial governor announced the suspension of all classes due to the Typhoon Goring. Unfortunately, classes were also suspended in the succeeding days as another storm, Hanna, caused heavy rains and flooding in the area, including the school grounds. As a response to this reality, the school enforced its enhanced learning modality by facilitating classes online, ensuring education is given amidst uncertainties. 

As learning began once again through screens via Zoom, many students as well as educators were already familiar with the setup as two academic school years were held online. Waking up ahead of time to open devices and prepare online for the daily morning prayer is not a stranger but rather an old practice for most.

Truly, everything becomes stronger when faced with a crisis, as the school manifests not only its resiliency but also its ability to adapt to unforeseen changes. Due to its urgent response to the flood-related concerns inside and outside the school grounds, Assumpta once again welcomed her employees and learners back onsite this week. Indeed, facing this new reality is made possible as the whole community follows Jesus every step of the way.
