Resounding cheers and blazing determination filled the campus as high school students enthusiastically embodied the spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship during the two-day high school sports and recreation festival last November 30 to December 1, 2023 with the theme, “Empowering champions, Assumpta lives synodality through sports.”

“Embrace the challenges, celebrate the victories, and most of all, cherish the moment you have together,” Ms. Arlene Carlos stated in an interview. This statement perfectly encapsulates the high school sports and recreational festival, as they have fiercely overcome the challenges, earned their way to victory, and empowered each other with their camaraderie.

Vibrant colors and a backdrop of cheers filled the Assumpta Court as Teams 1–20 paraded around the venue, accompanied by live music from the Acoustic Club.

An exhibition of homegrown talent and skills was showcased as the school’s South Zone Athletic Meet athletes proudly performed the torch relay, followed by the Oath of Sportsmanship led by Andrea Usman and Janssen Dimla, the two former MVPs of volleyball and basketball.

The spirit and meaningfulness of the event come from the community. These were felt as each team magnificently performed their much-awaited resounding and synchronized yells. Roars of cheers and the sounds of drums can be heard from all over the campus as the games commenced. An even more resounding cheers and yells echoed the Assumpta Court as the female and male faculty and staff played in the exhibition basketball game.

The spectacular performances of the Glee Club, Acoustic Club, Assumpta Dance Troupe, and the singing and dancing champions kept the crowd engaged and entertained during the awarding ceremony.

Closing the event, Team 9 Brown and Team 18 Yellow emerged triumphant as this year’s overall champions for Grades 7-9 and Grades 10-12 Division, followed by Team 7 Green and Team 16 Orange in second place and Team 6 Orange and Team 20 White in third place.
