MACABEBE, Pampanga — After a month-long intensive training, Assumpta Technical High School (ATHS) placed fourth during the 2025 Cluster X Secondary Schools Press Conference with the theme “Empowering Voices: Nurturing Responsible Campus Journalism in Support of the Matatag Curriculum” last January 24, 2025.

News Writing, Sports Writing, and all group categories were held at Pampanga Colleges, while Colegio de San Lorenzo was the venue for the remaining individual categories.

ATHS secured third overall in the group categories, with a first-place finish in English Collaborative Desktop Publishing (CDP) and a third-place finish in English Radio Broadcasting and Script Writing (RBSW).

Having returned to the competition after a long time, both the English and Filipino CDP teams brought home special awards despite their relative inexperience.

With the collaborative efforts of  Jov Tayag, Zildjan Mallari, Jennis Sotelo, Peige Gomez, Gabriel Gabon, and Jubel Perez, the English CDP was awarded with the first Best in News Page, first Best in Feature Page, first Best in Layout, second Best in Sports Page, and third Best in Editorial Page.

Meanwhile, Hanzley Bayquen, Jerome Victoria, Aldritz Timoteo, Kia Santina Mandap, Stephanie Reyes, Christine Dungo, and Valerie Nuguid claimed the third Best in Feature Page in the Filipino CDP category.

On the flip side, the ATHS’ English RBSW also bagged the third Best in Infomercial and second Best in Script, while Zildjan Dayao, Alexca Lorenzo, and Jasmine Chua were named as the second Best Anchor, second Best News Presenter, and third Best in Technical Application, respectively.

Subsequently, Annea Sabile and Josh Maniego conquered the individual category after finishing first and second in Column Writing.

Both Kim Cano and Franchette Alfonso also had a podium finish in Editorial Writing as they lay second and third in their category.

Moreover, many Assumptan contestants entered the top 10 placements in the individual categories, having 12 for the English division and nine in the Filipino division.

Together with the school’s English CDP, 12 individual contestants that placed first to sixth moved to the Division Schools Press Conference, which took place last February 4 to 5 at Potrero National High School and San Vicente Pilot School for Philippine Craftsmen in the City of San Fernando, Pampanga.
