A Message from the School Director
Isang magandang umaga sa inyong lahat. Our dear Assumptans, welcome to School Year 2023-2024!
Kumusta kayo pagkatapos nang mahigit na dalawang buwang bakasyon? Ano ang nararamdaman ninyo ngayong araw na ito? Some of you may feel nervous today. Some may be sad, but I’m sure many are happy and excited. To those who are nervous and sad, I’m sure you will discover many reasons for you to be joyful this year.
I would like to start my welcome remarks on this first day of school by asking you the question, “Whom do you follow on your social media accounts?”
Are you a follower of any of these famous personalities:
- Kathryn Bernardo with 17.9 followers on Instagram;
- Niana Guerrero with 40.1 followers on TikTok; and
- Anne Curtis-Smith with 14.9 M followers on Twitter?
Like the apostles, let us choose to follow Jesus together this year by living our school thrust, “Following Jesus, we live synodality and respond to our new realities today.” We live synodality by walking, listening, and working together with the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
As we begin the School Year 2023-2024, the school would like to listen and respond more to your needs to realize our desires for your holistic formation.
To deepen the first Assumption Education Pillar which is Academic Excellence, I am happy to share with you that the ATHS RealFlex Learning Modality has been evaluated and improved. This year, we will call it the Enhanced ATHS RealFlex Learning Modality. This will help your academic development by helping you attain the knowledge, skills, and behaviors necessary for your success in life.
Modifications in the following areas of the learning modality will be discussed with you by your teachers:
- schedule;
Part of this is the integration of an Enrichment Period where activities will be facilitated by the Guidance Center, School Clinic, and Library staff.
Protected time for the club meetings, remedial, and subject enrichment sessions are also embedded in the schedule.
- summative assessments;
- submission and completion of performance tasks;
- schedule in the accomplishment of asynchronous activities;
- bringing and using personal devices; and
- uploading of self-learning modules and Aralinks resources.
Listening to you also means allowing you to showcase your potential by participating in contests outside the school. Hence, this year, the school will resume joining the academic and athletic meet, campus journalism, and other events.
For the Senior High School learners, listening to you means elevating the standards of our program so you are better prepared for college education and to develop the needed competencies in the world of work. To realize this, the following will be given focus:
- preparing for PEAC certification;
This is a quality assurance process that has been commissioned to the Private Education Assistance Committee by the Department of Education.
- leveling-up of PETAs and other learning activities;
- providing more opportunities to develop your written and oral communication skills;
- strengthening the culture of research among learners and teachers, including aligning research topics to your future careers and improving the research congress;
- joining school organizations instead of clubs;
- introducing enrichment activities leading to TESDA National Certification; and
- strengthening the values of independence, a sense of responsibility, and leadership among learners.
To intensify the next Assumption Education Pillar which is Faith and Spirituality, your CLE classes will be enriched through opportunities that will allow you to have more intimate moments with Jesus and with St. Marie Eugenie through experiences that will deepen your love for the Eucharist. Also, your annual recollection will already be conducted for the whole day, utilizing ladderized recollection modules that will be crafted by your class advisers and CLE teachers.
To strengthen the third Assumption Education Pillar which is Social Responsibility, the school will polish our action plans as a Laudato Si’ school. This is to firm up our framework composed of Seven-Eco Actions and anchored from the passages in the encyclical as a guide for schools like Assumpta to promote and practice Laudato Si’ as a lifestyle.
Offering our listening ears and hearts to you plays a crucial part in living synodality and in intensifying Social Responsibility. Thus, regular kumustahan sessions facilitated by the subject teachers and the Student Affairs Office will take place this school year. The same will also be extended to your parents and guardians as we bring back the face-to-face implementation of the Parents Continuing Education Program through our Parent Teacher Association (PTA) meetings.
What else will be new this School Year 2023-2024?
- To ensure your safety, the school will have for the first time a QR Code Attendance Tracker with login and log-out features for your parents to monitor your presence in the school.
- A new accounting has been installed to facilitate improved services in the Finance Office.
- For the Physical Plant Department, we are happy to share with you the following:
- the Human Resource Office has been extended and a room for the Class Advisers’ Moderator has been built. This is to provide more spaces where the concerns of school employees and the learners can be addressed; and
- in order to ensure seamless quality learning for all of you, a concrete barrier in front of the chapel will be constructed which is hoped to mitigate flooding and a new generator set will be purchased to provide power supply to all school buildings. This is to avoid cancellation of classes during power interruptions.
Finding ourselves ready to realize our mission of Transformative Education, let us also live synodality by responding to the new realities today. Our sense of mission does not end in the boundaries of our campus, but it embraces others, especially those in the peripheries.
Remember that as you enjoy learning in school, there are millions of children who are not going to school. As you eat three meals in a day with snacks in between, there are many people who are hungry. As you are sheltered in your homes, there are a lot of people who are homeless. As you sleep soundly at night, there are countless people who are unable to sleep because of problems.
Following Jesus, let us live synodality by responding to the realities of these people.
Magandang umaga muli. Welcome home, Assumptans!
Ms. Arlene S. Carlos, The School Director
