Imagine a classroom where every syllable carries the weight of potential, where every phoneme uttered is a stepping stone towards literacy. During the implementation of the Remedial Reading Program, a page of transformation unfolds every session, where the simple act of decoding words becomes a gateway to new and exciting possibilities.

This program was crafted by the Communication Arts in English (CAE) Department for primary learners classified as emerging and developing readers, identified through the Reading Assessment done by CAE teachers at the start of the quarter, aiming to offer targeted and intensive support to help them overcome their reading difficulties. On November 9, 2023, Ms. Eloise Joyce M. Ombao, the Remedial Reading Teacher, and Ms. Rosally Gutierrez, the English Subject Coordinator, facilitated an orientation providing comprehensive details about the Remedial Reading Program. This orientation formally commenced the reading journey of the learners where we received relentless support from their parents and guardians.

Being a Remedial Reading Teacher requires steadfast dedication and patience to guide these learners through their reading challenges and nurture their word decoding and reading abilities. Our sessions uncovered their earnest commitment to improvement, and their faces beamed with pride as they achieved our targeted reading goals. Through our reading drills, assessments, engaging activities, and tailored practices which were facilitated from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. every Tuesday, our mission to guide these young minds toward their path of literacy was a resounding success. I am also thankful to Ms. Pia Pulido, a reading specialist, whose innovative ideas encouraged me to create fun and engaging activities, turning reading from just a mundane task into an exciting adventure. Additionally, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the CAE department and the school administration for their support and encouragement throughout the implementation of the Remedial Reading Program.

As the vibrant Culminating Activity marked the conclusion of the Remedial Reading Program on May 2, 2024, it illuminated not only the achievement of the 34 learners who successfully completed the program but also the unwavering support of their proud parents and guardians. With their warm smiles and grateful hearts, every learner received their certificates of completion, symbolizing not just the end of the journey but also a new world of literacy and boundless opportunities.
